Our Planet Mark Certification for sustainability
We’ve achieved Planet Mark Certification in recognition of our commitment to continuous improvements in sustainability (August 2024).
Using this accreditation, we can now measure and find opportunities on an ongoing basis to reduce our carbon emissions, energy and water consumption, waste creation and more.
Carbon emissions
Our Group Finance Director, Tim Fawbert, explains:
“We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions yearly so that we can all halt climate change together.
“Our company-wide location-based measured carbon footprint in the year ending July 2023 was 1,043.0tCO2e. The main components of this are fuel and gas, fleet travel, electricity, business travel and waste. Our measured carbon footprint per employee was 8.1 tCO2e.”
Carbon footprint
This is our first year of business carbon footprint reporting and certification to Planet Mark.
The initial 12 months was based on our commitment, in our business operations, to continuous improvement in sustainability, by measuring and reducing carbon footprint and engaging stakeholders.
Environment
Tim adds:
“We will now use this certification as the basis on which to build our sustainability plans and to help us reduce our impact on the environment year-by-year.”
We calculated the carbon footprint of our Head Office and Transplants, Trees and Container Divisions for the year ending July 2023 and set a target to reduce emissions by 5% annually.”
