Home > About Us

We’re a family-run business with decades of horticultural heritage and prowess behind us.

Established in 1930, and trading across 10 decades, we’re leading suppliers of wholesale plants to the amenity and retail sectors.

Our customers include landscape contractors, local authorities, foresters and landowners, as well as garden centres.

Our expert horticultural teams are responsible annually for sowing, growing and tending nearly seven million plants across 777 acres.

The best quality

We supply transplants, field and container trees and shrubs and herbaceous potted plants – offering customers a one-stop shop.

As UK biosecurity and plant health pioneers, we also ensure our customers receive only the best quality plants.

National Plant Specifications

We grow to National Plant Specifications and are part of the Defra-endorsed Plant Health Alliance’s Plant Healthy Certification scheme too.

The Williamsons

It all began with Harry Williamson, a horticulturist and entrepreneur, in 1930. But the company became what it is today under the leadership of his son, Peter, who passed away in 2011.

The Williamsons saw the opportunity in the 1960s to sell their nursery plants to an undeveloped retail market. They created one of the country’s first garden centre chains.

In 1987, when the family wished to focus on wholesale growing, their 19 garden centres were sold as a PLC.

We continue to be family-run with ownership and joint chairmanship held by Heather and Simeon Williamson, the third generation.
